A lot of Norfolk’s older housing is wood: lap siding, porches, columns and decorative trim that has been painted many times over. On those homes the real work is prep. We scrape and sand failing layers, replace or repair soft wood, and prime bare spots before a finish coat goes on. Homes near the Elizabeth River, the Lafayette River and the bay also see more mildew and moisture, so we wash first and pay close attention to the north and shaded sides.
